Shadows of Divine Things

My Photo
Name:
Location: Texas, United States

This site is devoted to theological and philosophical investigations of the spiritual meanings of life, current events, music, spiritual growth, nature, and learning to be attuned to listening to the 'language of God.' The name of this blog comes from one of Jonathan Edwards's journals which he called 'Shadows of Divine Things,' and later renamed 'Images of Divine Things.' As a Christian I am continously on a spiritual journey to grow more into the image of Christ, to understand what it means to be crucified with Christ. To seek the truths of the Christian Faith is of upmost importance, and to know that any truths that are found outside of Christianity are present there because they ultimately point to God. I have an M.A. in theology and apologetics and I completed one year of graduate studies in Philosophy at Marquette University.

Quote of the Week

"Election is not the consequence of faith,
but faith is the consequence of election".

Hmmm I am not sure if I follow. Let me break the quote down into two sections using different words.

1. God choosing us is not because of faith.

2. Faith results in God choosing us.

I would agree with 1 however strongly disagree with 2.

"God gives each man a measure of faith"

This faith that he gives us is because of his choosing us or electing us. We are also elected before we have faith.

Oh wait up I have read the second line wrong I think it is saying.

God choosing us results in us having faith.

Makes perfect sense. BIG THUMBS UP

Recently, in my Renaissance and Reformation class, using Dr. Estep's text- my professor in trying to defend the Anabaptists, (very sympathetic to them) and that's okay w/ me, he's baptist-
Anyway- he pointed out that Zwingli had moral failures, ie... a live-in girlfriend before he became pastor at Zurich- and then finally married his live-in girlfriend at Zurich. Does any Zwingli fan aware of this accusation against him...? Any info would be a help to me. It seems to me that Estep points out accusations leveled at Zwingli, from the mouths of Anabaptists... curious, since he's sympathetic to them.

In the words of one of my friends... "What you got?" I'll wait to see if anyone has info.

Thanks
